Bank of Glass (GlassBank) - open fusing and lampworking studio

Fusing or/and lampworking classes.

KlaasiPank (Bank of Glass) is our open lampworking studio in Kärdla, Hiiumaa, ESTONIA

What we’ll do

We will have a one-or-two hour workshop in the studio. All daring participants are invited to work with lampworking and glass fusing. You will create a unique little glass bowl or fused stained glass piece and some glass beads, possibly in the natural colours of Hiiumaa national costumes or in those of your own choice. You will be introduced to the possibilities of the studio and to those interested, also the history of glass in Hiiumaa. All created works during this workshop belong to participants.

What else you should know

Guests do not need to know anything specific, we'll spend inspirational time together with glass and local cultural history

What to bring

There is no need to bring anything specific, all materials and safety equipment are provided by the studio. Guests can bring some illustrative material if they wish to make items like glass beads in colours of their national costumes or some preferred style.

Where we'll be

We will conduct our workshop in our glass studio, which is located in Kärdla, the only town on Hiiumaa island. The studio has stained glass corner, glass cutting table, fusing kilns and flameworking equipment. The studio is comfortably furnished; with a small resting corner and a little art library. The walls are covered with paintings and artwork by co-owner, stained glass artist and a painter Valev Sein (unless a recent client just bought them).

About your host Kalli
I am graduated glass artist and I have been active over 20 years. My studio is regarded as one of three or four leading glass studios in Estonia. My main institutional customers are governmental departments and agencies as well as major enterprises. Their regular purchases consist of unique prizes and business gifts. My studio’s range is, of course, much more comprehensive: from glass jewelry to stained glass windows and exclusive lightings. To me, glass is much more than work, it is my passion, hobby and my everyday life. I like to mix different techniques - glass fusing, slumping, flameworking, recycling. I love to improvise and to combine new techniques with old ones. I belong to local community of creative people, which provides us with a wider view of local cultural life, willingly shared with you.
